Turkish regulations on air passenger rights

TURKISH AIR PASSENGER RIGHTS:

  • Receive up to €600 compensation in Turkish Lira.

  • Laws cover delays, cancellations, and overbooking.

  • All Turkish flights are protected.

If your flight is delayed or canceled, it’s more than just annoying — it can also cost you a lot of time and money. That’s especially true if you have to stay overnight in a hotel or miss an important event. And if the airline loses your bags, the cost goes up even more.

The good news is that if you’re flying into, out of, or within Turkey — no matter your nationality or age — you can receive compensation under the Turkish Regulation on Air Passenger Rights also known as SHY PASSENGER. And with AirHelp, claiming it is simple.

AT A GLANCE

Know your passenger rights in Turkey

Turkish passenger protections apply on all flights taking off from Turkey, and all international flights that land in Turkey on a Turkish airline.

Submit a claim for between €100 and €600 (paid in Turkish Lira) if you were denied boarding, your flight was delayed by at least 3 hours on arrival, or canceled less than 2 weeks before departure.

Air passenger rights in Turkey are heavily influenced by EC 261, and set a similar standard of compensation and strong protection for passengers.

If your flight’s delayed, the airline must provide a means of communication, as well as accommodation and a transfer for overnight delays.

If your flight is canceled or you’re denied boarding, you’re entitled to a refund or alternative route to your destination.

Compensation for domestic flights is capped at €100 (paid in Turkish Lira).

Passengers have 1 year to make a claim, and compensation is specified in € but paid in Turkish Lira.

Although you’re protected under Turkish law if your flight is delayed or canceled, it can be complicated getting the money you’re owed. AirHelp’s here to make things simple — we’ll check how the Turkish Regulation on Air Passenger Rights (SHY PASSENGER) applies to your case and handle your claim with the strongest arguments on your behalf.

What’s not covered: force majeure

Turkish air passenger rights differentiate between disruptions that are an airline’s fault and those that are due to exceptional circumstances outside of the airline’s control.

Disruptions that would be considered to be a force majeure can include, for example:

  • Extreme weather

  • Volcanic eruption

  • Wars or security threats

If your flight delay or boarding denial resulted from situations like these, the airline doesn’t have to pay compensation, although it still has to provide you with care and onward transportation.
